Episode 603 - The Big Help
Taped: 4/9/21
Plot:
At 11:30 am on Saturday morning, Lightning still wants to sleep. He turns a bird squawking outside into a ball before throwing it out of the neighborhood. Amy wonders how someone can even think about sleeping that late, to which Flash and Sonic tell her that breakfast is a good reason not to do such a thing. Amy has Sonic check on him to at least make sure he's still responsive. He is, and Sonic tells him that he just slept the morning away. Amber asks Lightning if he'll help her with her bike, and it turns out she just needs to have her tire inflated. She goes for a ride, leaving Lightning wondering what he wants to do for the day. Flash tells him that he can do some exploring in the Mystic Ruins, but he can't go because he has a violin lesson later that day. Lightning bets Flash that he can discover the ancient ruins Charisma found, to which Flash says he'd like to see him try. One train ride later, Lightning arrives at the Mystic Ruins. He discovers a gold echidna statue which locks into place when he places it on a pedestal and concludes it must be used to open the pyramid. He takes a muddy path in search of the silver statue which leads him to the river where he slips and bumps his head. Big the Cat hears the commotion nearby and, upon seeing Lightning unconscious, takes him to his hut. Lightning wakes up some time later and sees Big taking a bath in the river. When Big sees that Lightning has come to, he offers to cook some fish for him. Lightning is impressed by how much fish he is able to cook, and Big explains that it's really all that's available for him to eat. As Big cooks their food, Lightning wonders why he lives in the jungle. Big tells him that he's been there all this time and that he likes it there because it's simple. Lightning wonders what he thinks of people calling him stupid, but Big insists he can do lots of things. Amy wonders what happened to Lightning since Flash is back from his violin lesson already. Sonic goes out to look for him in the Mystic Ruins. Big and Lightning have their meal, and Lightning is impressed that Big has been able to survive off fish for so long. It's at that point that Big realizes that Lightning is Sonic and Amy's son. Big confesses that he gets so lonesome that he forgets that Sonic and his friends have kids half the time. Big hears a noise outside and goes to investigate. He sees Sonic outside of his hut and asks him what he's doing there. Sonic says that he's looking for Lightning who has gone missing. Big forgets Lightning's name and says he took someone in who was injured. Sonic is shocked to discover the injured someone happens to be Lightning. Sonic thanks Big for taking good care of him and invites him over to visit the family. Sonic reveals to Amy that Big was taking care of Lightning and reacquaints Big with the rest of the kids. Amy reminds Big that she's a mother, to which Big says they need to see each other more often. Big asks where he can find Cream to which Amy explains she lives next door. Upon hearing this news, Big rushes over to Cream and squeezes her in excitement. Lightning tells the group that Big can cook fish well, and Big offers to demonstrate using Sonic's fire pit. The gang has a cookout in the backyard, and they praise Big for cooking such a fine meal. The next morning, Lightning is the one who wakes Sonic up at the crack of noon. Sonic lets him have the victory this time around.
Fun Facts:
Big shows that he's not as dumb as people think he is by proving he's quite adept at cooking the fish he catches and that he prefers his simple life in the jungle.
