Episode 579 - O Solo Oh No
Taped: 9/4/20
Plot:
While Chaotix is shooting a video for their YouTube channel, Espio randomly starts singing a solo during the song. The band stops to ask what the matter is, and Espio complains that he's always playing his guitar and singing a few backup vocals but wants to try his hand at singing and playing lead. The band begrudgingly gives in and lets Espio sing a song of his choice with Swen on piano, but his first two choices aren't exactly top notch. He then decides to sing "Time in a Bottle" since he knows the riff to that. The band ends the song amazed at how well Espio did and decide to let Cream edit and upload the video. To their surprise, the video gets over one hundred thousand hits within the next few days. Eric suggests taking their act to a radio station since he's friendly with one of the disk jockeys. They book a time for Chaotix to play, not bothering to tell him that Espio will be singing instead of Vector. After a day of rehearsing, the DJ calls Chaotix the following morning to let Chaotix know that Alice Cooper booked their time slot. Since they have to show up to the studio earlier than expected, they rehearse for the rest of the day. The band shows up to the studio the following morning, and the DJ is surprised to hear that Espio will be singing instead of Vector. Chaotix does their normal routine with Espio as lead, singing cover songs for the first half hour. The host then opens the floor for some callers, but they all aren't used to hearing Espio sing. Knuckles manages to get through, at first praising the group but agreeing with the rest of the callers. The DJ threatens to cut the show short, but Espio tells him that he shouldn't have to worry about his audience. After a brief consultation, Chaotix talks Espio into deferring back to the way they normally play. The calls after their slot ends are much more positive, and Chaotix leaves on a high note. Espio doesn't have any regrets about trying to take the lead, and Chaotix agrees to give him more exposure. They decide resume their video shoot and do a set of Beatles covers which they upload immediately after, much to the chagrin of Knuckles.
Fun Facts:
Espio gets a chance to play and sing lead for the first time in Chaotix history. It's revealed Station Square has a local rock station called Shock Rock 101.5 FM with a DJ called Naughty Scotty.
