Episode 555 - Can't Build That Here, Boy
Taped: 3/6/20
Plot:
Tails is jolted awake by early morning construction and runs outside to discover that Sonic is investigating the noise as well. They discover a sign on the street advertising a Bargainopolis store coming soon. A limousine pulls up and Rich Banks, CEO of Bargainopolis, introduces himself and the store chain he runs. He shows them the floor plans of an upcoming location which happens to be right above their very own neighborhood. Sonic refuses to sell his home so it can be bulldozed, but Tails haggles with Banks until they agree on a price. Banks lets Sonic talk it over with his family and leaves. Amy agrees that she and Sonic can't let Banks destroy their home because they've grown attached to the neighborhood. Cream comes in, having ear-slapped Tails to get him to come to his senses. They then witness Marine slamming the door in Banks' face, turning his offer down as well. However, the school bus comes home early with the kids saying Garnet Grove Elementary has been bought out by Banks. Sonic and Tails go to the mayor's office together, only for the mayor to tell them that he has known Banks' plans to raze the neighborhood long before they have. Mayor O'Brien is more upset about a TGI Friday's that is potentially closing to make room for a Ruby Tuesday. They strike a deal: the mayor will stop Banks from getting his store if Sonic and Tails can not only prevent more buildings in the neighborhood from being sold but also save TGI Friday's in the process. Sonic and Amy split duties with Tails and Cream, and both pairs get to work. The younger kids keep watch over their homes while Lightning and Lucy rush off to save the elementary school. Lightning tangles with a morbidly obese wrecking ball operator and throws his key down a sewer after he crashes the vehicle. Meanwhile, Sonic and Amy consider buying TGI Friday's with the savings they have despite Amy having to give birth in a few months. The owner keeps looking for buyers, but Rich Banks tells them he has the 50% he needs to demolish Garnet Grove. Sonic remembers what the mayor told him about property transfers and, after hastily signing the papers for TGI Friday's, races Rich Banks to city hall to have his purchase approved first. The mayor tells Sonic that he didn't have to save TGI Friday's anyway because he tried Ruby Tuesday and liked it. However, the mayor informs Rich Banks that he can't raze Garnet Grove because it's a historic district. One house in the neighborhood belonged to Wallace S. Square, founder of Station Square. Sonic also show off the paperwork he acquired from TGI Friday's, and Rich Banks walks away defeated. Sonic ultimately ends up not buying the restaurant and everyone in the neighborhood is relieved to see things back to normal, especially the kids who will go back to school the following day. Rich Banks tries to convince Eggman to sell his base but gets vaporized instead.
