Episode 730 - The Long Road
Taped: 9/29/2024
Plot:
Knuckles visits a half-asleep Mace who is still recuperating from a health scare involving Marine. Knuckles says he and Rouge will be there for him along with his neighbors. Marine comes by in good spirits, and Knuckles feels her stomach. Mace falls asleep, and Knuckles carries him to bed. He wakes up 18 hours later and drives Marine to her next appointment. It still isn't enough sleep, so he conks out in the waiting room. Dr. Obgyn checks her out and takes note of her ER visit for Braxton Hicks which is common for first time mothers. The doctor also notes that Marine's had a rough pregnancy, but she's been taking it well so far. The ultrasound goes well until Dr. Obgyn notices that there isn't much movement. While it could be nothing, it could also be the sign of distress or stunted development. Marine is told that she needs to keep an eye on it for the time being. Marine asks what would happen if things don't improve. She may have to have an emergency C-section and have the baby placed in an incubator. Keeping the baby in the womb would be ideal, but she'd have to closely monitor the progress. The doctor recommends a heart rate monitor and calling in case the rate is too low or too high. Marine is devastated and comes back to Mace crying. She's too depressed to even read the report, which Mace does and understands what to do. He takes Marine to CVS where they find a heart rate monitor along with other essentials. An employee says that she's seen this sort of thing before and gives Mace and Marine some advice. Marine is still too depressed to say anything, to which the employee says Mace should be supportive and not boss her around. Mace decides to surprise Marine with an ice cream sundae, but she's too busy talking with her mother. Mace, however, stops by to say hello. Knuckles digs through the floor to offer some support. He relays the same advice the CVS employee gave him, although he assures him that he'll be there for him and Marine. Mace offers a melted sundae, and Knuckles tears into it. Mace awakens to the sound of Amy and Marine talking in the living room. Amy says she's used to waking up early because of her kids. Mace decides to surprise Marine with a pancake breakfast, and she's instantly won over. Amy thanks Mace for being such a supporting father-to-be, and they talk about how Amy's kids have grown over the years. Amy promises to be there for the two of them as well. At the next follow-up appointment, Dr. Obgyn apologizes for the way the news about her pregnancy was delivered. Marine shows the heart rate progress, and the doctor says everything is normal. An ultrasound picture shows that the baby is smiling back at her. Marine shows Mace the photo, and the two hug. She asks to have Chinese takeout, and Mace agrees as Waltzing Matilda plays over the waiting room speakers.
