Episode 725 - Where the Swamp Winds Blow
Taped: 8/25/2024
Plot:
Manic and Sonia call Sonic and his family over for devastating news. They show him an article that shows Mobi-Mart's intention to open up a second store, and they plan to level the swamp for them to do so. This puts their house directly in their path, and they have no intention of moving. Sonic and Amy say they can bring their deed to the zoning department so they can hopefully save their swamp. Manic extracts it from the safe and goes to the head of the zoning department with it. Unfortunately, he discovers that their deed only covers a fraction of land on the swamp. The rest of it has been seized by eminent domain. Manic would have to plead his case to the city council and Mobi-Mart's headquarters. Upon returning to tell the others, he discovers the they're already starting to drain the swamp waters. Manic confronts the worker who says that he'd have to go to the city council, since he's just doing his job. Manic goes there, and he's told that the ordinance was passed overnight. To make matters worse, he'd have to wait three weeks for a re-vote. For the time being, he'd have to go to Mobi-Mart's corporate headquarters in Alabama. As he leaves, Manic also hears that they're going to start logging the swamp the following day. Manic goes back to relay everything, only to notice that the entire swamp has been drained. Sonic tries talking to a logger trying to start a chainsaw, only for Manic to homing attack him. Since Alabama is four hours away, Manic would have to fly there. Tails can't take them, because he's watching Sam and Miles since Cream is at a Holiday Entities event and won't be home until morning. They can use the Tornado which is at his workshop at the Mystic Ruins. Since Sonic hasn't been there in so long, it takes a flashback for him to remember how to make the runway appear. They fly up in the air, only for Eggman to show up on his Egg Carrier X. They fire missiles and bombs at Sonic and Manic until a police helicopter pulls them over. Sonic and Manic fly away, arriving in Alabama hours later. Mobi-Mart's CEO tells Manic that preparations are underway, and there's nothing he can do about it. Back at home, Amy and Sonia discover that there is some extra information on the deed that nobody noticed. The deed says their entire swamp was in the hands of Sonia and Manic's cabin’s previous owners and that it was passed onto them when they turned 18. The swamp is under their township and has never been a part of Station Square. Manic shows the entire deed to the CEO, and he apologizes for the mistake. He orders all construction to be canceled immediately. Manic and Sonia oversee the work to restore the swamp back to its former glory. Flash, Lightning, and Sonic play in the newly-formed mud. A frog then jumps on their porch, and it's Scarlet's first word. Amy plays Tina Turner, and everyone dances to the music.
Fun Facts:
We learn that the swamp is officially called Grunt Township and is not actually part of Station Square. Scarlet says her first word in this episode.
