Episode 713 - It's Only Natural
Taped: 3/3/24
Plot:
Rouge is holding up the plans for family dinner with Locke. She gets down without her usual makeup, saying she ran out. They go to Salty Sam's where they have a good meal despite Rouge not having her makeup. Locke's messy and loud eating draws snark from Knuckles, making Locke throw utensils and food at him. They then go to the mall where Locke supervises the kids at the arcade. Knuckles walks Rouge to the makeup store where she's told that their shipment of Vivian D’Batte has been delayed as it's stuck on a cargo ship. Knuckles wonders why Rouge doesn't use another brand, and Rouge says Vivian D’Batte is the only kind that doesn't give her allergic reactions. Rouge, like other bats, has sensitive skin and has to use a special kind of makeup called Vivian D’Batte for that purpose. Rouge decides to wait until the shipment comes, but the days pass and she hears nothing from the store. She reluctantly comes out of the bathroom with her hair a mess since she's also out of the Vivian D’Batte conditioner. Knuckles tells her not to worry since she still looks beautiful to him. He leaves to help Mace and Marine on a project when she gets a call from school. The nurse wants her to pick up a sick Wynona. When Rouge gets there, the nurse assumes that she is Wynona's father. Rouge takes Wynona home and they arrive just as she throws up again. Rouge takes care of Wynona until Knuckles gets back. A few more days pass, and the shipment of Vivian D’Batte still hasn't arrived. Knuckles has gotten used to it, but Rouge hasn't. She cries upon being reminded that she can't look young anymore. Knuckles isn't sure why she feels this way and gets his answer in the form of a flashback. Rouge, age 12, keeps getting mistaken for a boy because her figure hasn't developed yet. Her mother fixes this by introducing her to her first makeup kit from Vivian D’Batte. She says it's perfect for her because it's designed for sensitive skin like hers. She puts on Rouge's signature eye shadow, and it makes her look mature already. Despite this, Knuckles is still confused as to why Rouge is mistaken for a man without her makeup considering she now has a very busty figure. To drive it even further, he also isn't sure why she isn't in the mood even if he still thinks she's attractive. Amy meets up with Rouge at the malls to look for replacement makeup. After probing Rouge with some questions, she realizes she's never tried anything else to see what happens. Amy takes Rouge to the doctor to have allergy tests done. It turns out her skin doesn't react to any of the injections so she can use brands of makeup other than Vivian D’Batte just fine. The doctor explains that while it's common for bats to have sensitive skin, Rouge's mother likely just assumed Rouge did as well and never bothered to have her tested. Afterwards, Amy treats Rouge to a shopping experience. Rouge puts on the makeup she bought from L'Oreal and is her old self yet again. She returns home to a pleasantly surprised Knuckles who is thrilled to see Rouge happy again. She explains what she learned at the doctor and how she can now use whatever beauty products she wants. She jumps in Knuckles' arms, and he carries her into bed. After their lovemaking session, Knuckles announces just why he was helping Mace and Marine before: they're expecting their first child. They talk about the twins welcoming a new cousin before remembering that their guardianship ceremony is later in the year. They plan on celebrating later that day, but the kids won't be home from school for another hour. They decide to keep lovemaking for the time being.
