TNAoSTH Classics: A Salute to Bob Barker
Taped: 9/3/23
Plot: Sonic and Tails accept microphones from Amy and Cream, respectively. They both briefly eulogize Bob Barker before introducing each segment of the special.
Truth or Consequences (1962): While Cream is outside looking for an out of state license place, Bob calls Espio to the stage. Bob gets to know Espio a little before asking his question. Espio answers the question too late, so he must pay the consequences. His stunt is flipping pancakes over a bar and catching them on plates. He successfully catches ten in 60 seconds, winning a stereo. Bob comments that Espio should be the one testing the stunts because he did so well.
Tattletales: (1976) Bob and Dorothy Jo play against Gene and Helen Rayburn and Richard Dawson and his partner Jody Donovan. After exchanging some banter, Bert asks a $150 question about how the husband never compliments the wife on something. Bob guesses her cooking since they're both vegetarians, and Dorothy Jo gets it right. Gene also matches Helen with driving after he relays an anecdote about her nearly running a stop sign. Richard thinks Jody will say her talent, but Jody gets it wrong by saying she doesn't satisfy him enough. Some time later, Dorothy Jo is asked if she is more apt to be nosy or Bob. She guesses Bob, and he matches her, giving them both the win.
Match Game 78 (1978): Richard Deacon, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Patty Duke Astin, Bob Barker and Fannie Flagg play with Gene Rayburn welcoming Lara-Le to the show. After vamping to commercial, they are ready to play the Audience Match. She is faced with _____ BASKET, and she goes with Bob's suggestion of SHOPPING. This earns her $100, and the chance to play for $2,000 on the Star Wheel. She spins Bob and hits one of the double sections. The Super Match question is SQUEEZE _____, and Bob writes his answer down quickly. Lara-Le guesses PLAY, and Bob toys with her by saying the Samoans on The Price is Right love to squeeze him. He reveals that he wrote down PLAY for $2,000.
Miss USA Pageant (1981): Bob asks Miss Ohio (Blaze), Miss Colorado (Rouge) and Miss Kentucky (Amy) what they would do to make the world a better place. Blaze says she would make sure all the nations are doing their fair share to reduce pollution. Rouge would stress that everyone should be kinder to each other and help one another in times of need. Amy would clean up the environment by recycling and producing less waste. The results are in, and the winner of Miss USA is Rouge. Rouge receives flowers and thanks everybody for their support.
The Price is Right (1984): Johnny calls Whitey to come on down and be the next contestant. He wins an Apple computer during the One-Bid and joins Bob on stage. Bob interviews Whitey who says that he works for a shipyard in Station Square. Whitey plays Deluxe Dice Game for a Mercury Colony Park station wagon. In order, he rolls a 4, a 1, a 6 and a 3, getting the 6 right. The car turns out to be $12,664, and he wins. However, he is defeated in the Showcase Showdown when an opponent beats him with 95 cents to his 75.
The gang talks about the impact Bob had on their lives along with his influence on celebrities. To close the show, a clip of Bob's final signoff on The Price is Right plays.
Fun Facts:
For the first time ever, the final short is considered canon to the rest of the series as Amy explains her father won his Macintosh and Mercury on The Price is Right in 1984. The rest of the shorts, however, are not canon. Also for the first time ever, a short was a follow up to one from a previous 'Classics' special. The 'Truth or Consequences' segment to be exact. Every show featured has been used in the past as either a short for TNAoSTH Classics or as part of a regular episode of the show.
