Episode 670 - The Other Sonic
Taped: 1/8/23
Plot:
Lightning and Sonic Jr. walk into the basement where Sonic is tinkering with a Sega Genesis. Neither of them have seen one before because they were born long after the console's popularity. Lightning has only been around emulators and Sonic Jr. only plays games on consoles not owned by Sega. Sonic hooks the Genesis up and shows his sons how the game works. Sonic Jr. isn't impressed because Sonic can't perform a lot of his abilities in his first game. However, he can do many things that Sonic Jr. can do at his current age. Sonic Jr. asks how old Sonic was when the game came out, to which Sonic says the game came out on his tenth birthday. Since Sonic Jr. is almost ten, this makes him jealous. He says he has what it takes to be the next Sonic before leaving. Lightning thinks Sonic Jr. may have an inferiority complex because Sonic became famous at a young age. Sonic agrees with his point, especially considering Sonic Jr. takes his heroic roles very seriously. Meanwhile, Eggman has finished his latest invention. Since Sonic will never be able to understand new technology based on Gen Z culture, the new iEgg will be a perfect scheme. Sonic and Amy think they may have set Sonic Jr. up for failure by naming him after Sonic. They think they can fix things once and for all by getting his name legally changed. After they leave, Lightning pulls Flash and Amber together. He tells them that their parents are going about it the wrong way and convinces them they they need to find Sonic Jr. before their parents do. They set out for the Mystic Ruins because Sonic Jr. is likely to find Eggman there. Sonic and Amy decide to think like an average nine-year old in order to find Sonic Jr. They go to town and look in the nearest GameStop they can find. Eggman comes across Sonic Jr. and teases him for his young age. This angers Sonic Jr. so much that he attacks Eggman's iEgg using Sonic's abilities. Eggman surrenders and Sonic. Jr does Sonic's victory pose. Eggman flees just as Lightning, Flash, and Amber rush onto the scene. They're about to congratulate Sonic Jr. on the victory, but Sonic Jr. wants no part of it. He says they're always leaving him out of their heroic activities. He's been relying on Tails because he knows what it's like to be called "too young". Sonic Jr. forgives Flash and Amber since they know what it's like to be younger siblings. However, he's upset at Lightning because he gets all the praise since he's the oldest and therefore the first to show off his abilities. Lightning realizes Sonic Jr. has a point, so he has an idea. He removes his gloves, which once belonged to Sonic, and gives them to Sonic Jr. so he can perform the Magic Hands ability. Sonic Jr. turns Lightning into a ball, but he decides he doesn't want the power. Lightning says that Sonic Jr. is just like father because he'd rather do things his own way. Lightning adds that he should find his own groove, and that that he, Flash, and Amber will be behind him every step of the way. Sonic Jr. thanks him by tackling him into a hug. Sonic and Amy give up on looking for Sonic Jr. at places a nine-year old would hang out and head home. They walk in and see the kids who tell them that Sonic Jr. defeated Eggman on his own today. Sonic and Amy apologize for holding Sonic Jr. back and he forgives them. Sonic Jr. takes off, and Sonic gives chase until he scoops him into his arms. Sonic then plays the Genesis games with his kids until they have to go to bed. After resetting Sonic 3, Knuckles digs from the floor and steals Sonic's Chaos Emeralds for real. Sonic says some people just don't change and goes after Knuckles.
