Episode 499 - It's Getting Spoopy in Here
Taped: 11/4/18
Plot:
Vanilla cooks homemade Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce for Chaotix when Eric busts in with a case. Charmy doesn't want to let a murder investigation interfere with his meatballs but has some sense knocked into him when Eric kicks him. Mighty can't go with them because he has an appointment with his podiatrist, although he drops them off before leaving for his appointment. Charmy points out how the case resembles a Scooby-Doo episode, given how they almost resemble the characters and the mystery takes place in a mansion. They go inside and look for the living room, opening up a door that keeps changing from a broom closet to something else along the way. They then discover the decaying body of the murder victim, Arthur Brennan, and split up to look for clues. They determine that he was shot with a large gun and that he has a housekeeper who lives in a guest house elsewhere on the property. Espio and later Eric go to the guest house to interrogate the housekeeper, Carmella Santiago. Instead, they find a woman named Isabelle Ducreux who claims to be the housekeeper and that Carmella Santiago actually owns the mansion. Vector and Chamry have gathered evidence, but Espio and Eric claim the housekeeper's alibi isn't adding up. They decide to check out the court records and find out that the house was in Brennan's name until six months before, upon which it was transferred to Carmella who was the former housekeeper. They then go back to the house to see the front doorknob fixed again, which confuses the gang even more. Eric calls the police, only to be given even more conflicting information concerning a person of interest, Brennan's business partner Daniel Hornsby. Just then, Brennan shows up alive and well, and tells Chaotix that Hornsby was the actual murder victim. Chaotix interrogates Brennan on how he knew Hornsby and what he was doing when the murder took place. They then go back to the guest house, only to discover that it disappeared. To make matters worse, everything in the mansion has changed places. Vector then remembers that they forgot to identify the man they just spoke too, thinking it was Hornsby trying to pull a fast one on them. Charmy pulls out the cell phone they extracted from the victim's body and realizes he has a profile picture of Hornsby and vice versa. Also, Carmella doesn't even have a contact because she doesn't exist. They remember that Brennan owned a housing tech industry and notice the grass near the spot where the guest house used to be is actually AstroTurf. Charmy calls Isabelle, and the cell phone rings directly beneath them, revealing that they are hiding under the turf. The police apprehend Hornsby and Isabelle for the elaborate murder plot and thank Chaotix for their hard work. As it turns out, Hornsby had hacked the public records to throw them off the trail, faking Carmella's existence and the sale of the mansion. He also planted the phone on Brennan's body to make them think he was actually Hornsby. The motive behind the murder was to exact revenge on Brennan for giving his share of their tech business to his children rather than Hornsby upon his retirement. The reasons for the random doors, vanishing guest house, self-repairing doorknob, and changing rooms all come down to the fact that Brennan loved his technology so much that he built his home to showcase all of it. They walk back to their headquarters since Mighty is still at the podiatrist's office. They find that the meatballs Vanilla cooked are still warm, which sends Charmy into a frenzy.
