Episode 497 - Home Improvement
Taped: 9/30/18
Plot:
Knuckles is sitting at the kitchen table browsing real estate ads when Rouge questions whether he wants to move. Knuckles explains that he's not searching for them, but rather his father as he feels his trailer has become far too decrepit over the years and he deserves a better living environment. Rouge proposes simply fixing Locke's trailer but Knuckles convinces her that a small house with similar amenities is well within their budget. He lays out his plan; Rouge and the twins will keep Locke distracted long enough for him to house hunt with Mace. Just as Mace arrives, they part ways on their respective missions. Locke, in true fashion, is angry about the loss of reception from his satellite dish just when he notices Rouge arrive. He's surprised to learn she wants to take him out for the day to spend quality time with the kids to which he happily obliges. Their first stop is Chuck E. Cheese for pizza and games to which Locke isn't too keen at first until he sees how much fun the kids are having and actually finds himself liking the pizza. Meanwhile, Mace and Knuckles examine a rather questionable house. The kitchen is in the front, the living room is in the back, the bedroom is downstairs, the bathroom is upstairs, and not much else about it makes sense. Knuckles declares it unsuitable for his aging and easily agitated father and the two press onward to their next stop. As Rouge and company leave Chuck E. Cheese, Wynona wants to go see The Incredibles 2 which Locke finds to be a perfect idea for more family fun. While they enjoy their movie, Mace and Knuckles inspect another house. This time they find a somewhat dated house but with a more sensible layout including a carport, tool shed, screened-in back porch, and huge property. Everything seems to suit Locke's personal tastes but a red flag goes up when Knuckles finds a note in the bathroom pointing out the faulty septic system and plumbing. They declare the house unsuitable and press onward. Back with the movie-goers, Locke is beginning to tire and wants to go home but Wynona insists on seeing the "horses" which confuses Locke. In the meantime, Mace and Knuckles find a more modern double-wide home but the yard is small and the interior looks like country-folk art from wall to wall with extremely ugly carpet. While it's got an adequate number of rooms, a full basement, and properly working plumbing, they're unsure if Locke would go for a small yard and no shed. Upon Locke's arrival at the "horses", he discovers Wynona means the carousel horses at the Station Square pier. Willing to give it a try, he gets on the ride with Roger and Wynona just as Knuckles calls Rouge to declare his findings. He's torn between the "bad plumbing" house and the "small yard, ugly decor" house. The first house has the option to bypass the existing septic system and well in favor of connecting to city water and public sewage whereas the second house needs a full remodel and the addition of a shed. After some deliberation, they settle on the first house and Knuckles goes off to sign the paperwork and get to work with Mace in moving all of Locke's belongings and getting the plumbing fixed. Back at the pier, Locke has grown tired and falls asleep in Rouge's backseat on their way to get cotton candy. A few hours later, Knuckles calls again to inform Rouge that the house is ready but to take Locke to his trailer and act like nothing is different so as to trick him into thinking he's been robbed which will undoubtedly prompt a phone call. She does and just as Locke wakes up, they say their goodbyes as Rouge drives off for the new house. Locke fails to notice his empty yard due to the sun going down and unlocks his door. Upon turning on the lights, he's immediately sent into a blind rage at the discovery of his empty trailer. He fumbles for his phone and immediately calls Knuckles just as he had predicted. After having incoherent nonsense screamed at him, Knuckles convinces Locke to come see him at 4077 Bluebird Mountain Road before calling the police so as to discuss the best course of action to take. Still angry, Locke hesitantly complies, grumbling all the way. As he pulls up to the property, he notices the uncanny similarity in the contents of the owner's yard to his own and becomes even more confused when he sees Rouge's car parked in the driveway. He knocks at the door noticing the owner even has the same porch chairs and thermometer. Knuckles opens the door and welcomes Locke to his new home. Shocked and confused by the sight of all his furniture, he inspects the entire house in pure disbelief, finding both old and new things with every room. He then realizes it truly is his home when he sees the "Grampa Locke's Shed" sign on the shed in the back yard that Knuckles and the kids got him for his birthday. Overcome with joy, Locke thanks Knuckles and Rouge for their generous gift to a "rotten old man." Knuckles assures him that he deserves better than his old crusty trailer which sends Locke on a trip down memory lane, recalling several of his precious memories living there from buying it, to raising Knuckles, to the birth of Roger and Wynona. It's at that moment he realizes there's one thing "wrong" with his new home. He rushes outside to park his car in the carport, then rushes back inside to search through boxes where he finds a Nixon/Agnew bumper sticker identical to the one found on the bumper of his trailer. He sticks it to the corner of his house declaring it "complete." He settles into his recliner and immediately falls asleep with Knuckles declaring everything a success. Locke momentarily awakens to kick them out so he can get some sleep. A few days later, Knuckles returns from Locke's new home to give Rouge a status update. Locke has settled in nicely after rearranging a few things to his liking and has even been keeping it clean much to Rouge's surprise. She asks what he's done with the money from selling his trailer for scrap to which Knuckles replies by showing her Locke's newly created Facebook page and explains that he used the $500 to by a desk and a laptop to keep better contact with his family. Locke is then seen opening Chrome, logging into Facebook, and declaring he likes his newfound hobby.
