Episode 493 - Christmas Lights on the Porch in June
Taped: 8/26/2018
Plot:
Amy helps Sonic find the spout where the windshield washer fluid goes for his truck before a pickup truck pulls in blasting country music. The driver parks in front of a trailer across the street and introduces himself as Luther Gibbons. He is married to his overweight wife Linda with four children: Abby, Charlene, Eunice, and Derrik. They have just moved to Garnet Grove from Alabama where Luther has taken a job at the sewage treatment plant. Linda prejudges them as not having Asian stereotypes, believing they are from China. Derrik is scolded for eating frogs before they are cooked, despite his preference for them being raw. Amy also notices that they still have their Christmas lights up, to which Linda says they leave them on year round to save themselves the effort. They invite Sonic to bring his wife and kids over to dinner, with Sonic and Amy having second thoughts about going. Sonic mentioned that rednecks like him are responsible for putting Trump in office, and Luther bursts into say that he's the greatest president in their lifetime. Cream wonders what the commotion about with Linda saying that she looks tasty since the family eats rabbits. Sonic and Amy recommend that she stays in her house if she wants to live. Sonic's family are shocked at the large dinner portions the Gibbons make for each other, and that everything is deep fried, including the spaghetti and butter. Sonic tries their home-brewed beer which is five times more pungent than a normal brew. After some confusion of the Hedgehog's religious beliefs, Amy explains that they allow their kids to be whatever they want. Linda replies that even though they themselves are Republicans and Baptists, they respect others except for Democrats and Muslims. Amy asks what they do for fun, and Luther pulls out an assault rifle, the sight of which sends Amber running home with Amy close behind. He says they go to the shooting range and they have the gun for protection. Lightning admits that they really don't use guns with the exception of Shadow. When Luther says he only shoots unless they shoot first, Lightning leaves. The family then sits down to watch Dr. Phil which sends Sonic Jr. running home crying. Luther introduces Sonic and Flash to his father Marshall "Marsh" Gibbons. Together they start playing banjo music which Linda dances to and makes the trailer shake. When the family reunites at home, Amy convinces everyone that the Gibbons have to go because they're scaring the children and ruining the neighborhood. They then look out the window only to discover the Gibbons have let their chickens loose on their yard and littered the lawn with their junk. Amy decides to fight trailer trash with trailer trash so she brings Locke from his trailer. Since Luther's job is the only thing keeping him in Station Square, Locke believes the only thing they can do is destroy the sewage treatment plant. Lightning instead thinks they should come up with a way to get him fired so he'll find a job somewhere else. Sonic and Amy pay a visit to Luther's boss and show him the rape scene from Deliverance and successfully convinces him that Luther is the rapist. Sonic, Amy and Cream remark how peaceful the neighborhood is without the Gibbons, though they wonder what ever became of them. It turns out they were able to prove that it wasn't Luther in the video, and they found a new job somewhere else. They move right next door to the Mario Bros., much to Mario's dismay.
