Episode 488 - Dial M for Mario
Taped: 7/15/2018
Plot:
Tails is forced to make an emergency landing in New York City with the Tornado with Sonic and Knuckles in tow. Sonic meanwhile is curious as to what happened to the Mario Bros. plumbing service since they landed close to it in Brooklyn. They touch down a few blocks away from Flatbush Avenue where an elderly shop owner tells them the Marios used to clean their pipes until they disappeared to the Mushroom Kingdom. He tells them that their old plumbing business is a few blocks down the road, except it hasn't been inhabited in years. Tails offers to stay by the Tornado while Sonic and Knuckles check it out. They happen upon the address of the business where the hinge to the front door breaks off due to years of decay. The interior reminds them of Charmy's pre-rehab days since it reeks of crack. They walk upstairs to the second floor where they discover a squatter in the bathroom only to leave him be. They then go across the hallway to their old office where they find the last job they worked on before they left for the Mushroom Kingdom. The invoice has a Russian name which Knuckles immediately recognizes as a former Soviet leader. They then realize the job listed parts to a nuclear reactor, leading them to think it had something to do with their disappearance from Brooklyn. They call Tails on his cell phone who directs them to an address in Little Odessa south of the plumbing business. The three regroup in Little Odessa and come across the address as seen on the invoice which turns out to be an unfinished structure. Sonic and Knuckles confirm that they need to confront Mario about this, so Tails leads them to a go-kart track where they happen to be racing. It turns out the structure they made was supposed to be a tribute to the victims of Chernobyl, but they couldn't complete it because they made it big with video games in the Mushroom Kingdom. Knuckles then asks about more conspiracies in the Mario fandom but Mario is prepared with answers every time. Mario then answers that Subcon was both real and a dream.
