Episode 485 - Daddy Do-Over
Taped: 6/17/2018
Plot:
Roger and Wynona give Knuckles a pineapple slicer as a Father's Day present while Rouge brings him breakfast in bed. Knuckles tells the family what he plans to give Locke as a present: a second chance at being a father because of how well he took care of Roger and Wynona the week before. Locke is dragged into this kicking and screaming when Knuckles mentioned that Wyn and Lara-Le will be observing their father-son activities. Knuckles wants to build a snowman, despite Locke telling him it's June. They go to Ice Cap together since it's the only place cold enough to build one, and Knuckles notices that Locke had fun doing it. Knuckles then suggests that Locke push him on a swing, so they hang one from a tree in Knuckles' backyard. Wyn and Lara watch this, prompting Locke to fling a beer bottle at Wyn when he bursts into laughter. Knuckles wants to be pushed higher, which Locke does in such a way that Knuckles hits his head on a branch. Locke then re-teaches Knuckles how to ride a bike, with Knuckles even crying when he hits a rock and falls off. Their next activity is building a tree house when Mace stops by and questions what they're doing. Later, Locke helps Knuckles tie a tie so he can take Rouge to a pretend prom at his old high school. After Rouge arrives, Locke drives them both in his car. He misses the school and pulls up to a mental institution where he commits Knuckles. Rouge asks why, prompting Locke to confess that he was sick of pretending to be father with Knuckles when Lara-Le never gave him the chance to be one when he was growing up. This was because Locke was afraid of being a father in the first place and Lara-Le insisted that she could raise Knuckles on her own. Locke then admits that he would have liked doing grown-up father/son things instead of stupid activities like macaroni art. He then has Rouge go back inside the institution to explain to Knuckles what he really wants. While there, Rouge tells Knuckles that he may have hated the Father's Day gift but that doesn't mean he hates Knuckles. Knuckles in turn realizes that Locke was just trying his best to be a dad, although the circumstances with Lara-Le didn't allow for it. Rouge then gets Knuckles out of the mental home, and apologizes to Locke for taking the father/son activities too literally. Knuckles then quizzes Locke on what he knows about his childhood, and surprising nails a lot of questions. They even sing "The Rainbow Connection" from The Muppet Movie, Knuckles' favorite childhood film. Since they're already dressed up, Locke and Knuckles bond for the evening by having dinner together at Antonio's. Before Rouge and Knuckles head home for the night, Locke shows Knuckles a keepsake he has had all this time, a plushie of Kermit the Frog. Locke then turns on Pawn Stars where Rick is in the middle of scolding Chumlee, prompting Locke to comment that it's just like his relationship with Knuckles.
Fun Facts:
It's revealed that Knuckles was obsessed with The Muppets as a child. It's also revealed that Locke actually wanted to be a normal father to Knuckles all along but was kept separated from him most of the time by Lara-Le.
