Episode 437 - Those Were the Days
Taped 5/21/17
Plot:
Vanilla pulls into Chaotix's driveway only to see the front lawn littered with boxes of VHS tapes, vinyl records, and old video games belonging to Vector. Charmy takes a couple of obsolete computers that Vector claims are still working even though they crash constantly. Chaotix and Vanilla tell Vector they need to throw the junk out and get with the times but Vector isn't sure if he can adjust to the technology of 2017. Vector is even surprised at how grey Vanilla's hair has gotten after she stopped dyeing it. Charmy suggests that Tails and Cream take Vector shopping for new technology while the rest of Chaotix sort through his stuff to see if there's anything worth keeping. Before leaving, Vector plays with Sam and Miles but has a ratchet shoved in his snout by the younger grandson. Vector drives Chaotix's aging '75 Dodge van to the mall with Tails and Cream in tow. They enter a new electronics store that has just replaced a store specializing in old video games. The salesperson shows Vector the latest in HD television which can now be controlled through a smartphone. This confuses Vector who still has a flip phone and owns a TV that still has knobs and an antenna. Vector also looks at a smartphone that can play games other than checkers and becomes hooked on an app that plays a Whack-a-Trump game. Next, Vector's idea of a stereo with huge speakers takes a backseat to a soundbar that while a fraction of the size he's expecting packs a punch in volume. The salesperson also gives Vector options for Comcast cable packages that have considerably more channel selections than his forty-channel basic package. After Tails and Cream show him his options, they stop over at Uncle Pappy's dealership to replace Vector's van. Uncle Pappy is shocked at the condition of Chaotix's van along with the mileage it gets and isn't even sure if it's legal to drive. Vector looks at possible replacements and is drawn into a newer model as Pappy gives the advantages of each. Back at Chaotix, the boys and Vanilla have sorted out the junk while preserving some collectable and sentimental items. Tails and Cream pull in with the old van with Vector driving a brand new GMC shortly thereafter, loaded with all their purchases. Vector explains it took him a while but he has most of the basic mechanics of the current technology down pat. Vector's co-workers and Vanilla praise him for finally stepping into the 21st century but they can't figure out what to do with the old van. Charmy decides to use it as a new Chaotix Detective Agency sign that doubles as a new storage shed so they back it into the front yard and plant a garden around it. Vector then sees Charisma checking out the new van, giving Vector the idea to take her to the playground with Sam and Miles so he can get a better feeling of the car. Vanilla takes the old fuzzy dice from the old van and puts it in the new one so they'll have something to remember to old one by.
