Episode 425 - I Wrote You a Love Letter
Taped 2/12/17
Plot:
Eric calls Vector over to help him read pill labels for Swen who has bronchitis. He also helps Eric make waffles when he's called onto investigate a murder. Swen tells Eric he can be helpful in other ways and tells him he can do the grocery shopping. Eric comes across Cream who helps him with the shopping list when he reveals that he can't read. They run into Amy at the store and she also aids him with his shopping. Amy then suggests that Eric can learn to read by attending adult literacy classes at Garnet Grove Elementary. After Eric gets home, he tells Swen he's going to be busy for a few days, secretly to start attending classes, and gets Locke to watch over him. Eric arrives at school where the secretary directs him into the classroom. Eric finds out that Ms. Penny is the teacher and is at first frightened by her boisterous demeanor. In spite of this, with some help from Ms. Penny he is able to write his name on the whiteboard, thanking Swen for telling him to spell it out. Ms. Penny then leads the class into singing a zoo-themed alphabet song, claiming learning is fun if you put a spin on it. By the end of class, Eric can write down something that vaguely resembles his name. One week passes and Eric is finally able to write the whole alphabet and even the numbers. He is also able to write a sentence about himself, even using proper punctuation. He thanks Ms. Penny for her help thus far before pausing to read the text on her Annoying Orange mug. He shows his work to Vector who also helps him read the members of his band's name along with his slogan. Vector then drives Eric over to the store so he can buy a surprise for Swen. When Eric arrives home, he gives Locke a case of Rolling Rock as a gift for helping take care of Swen. Eric then shows Swen a surprise: a hand-written love note and a marriage proposal he wrote himself. Swen accepts, appreciating the help Vector gave into picking out his ring. They then go over to Chaotix who is helping Espio shed his dead scales. Swen and Eric announce the latter's improvement in his adult literacy questions and then telling them that they're engaged. Swen admits that they've been putting it off because Eric couldn't sign his own name to the necessary paperwork but with Valentine's coming up, it was only appropriate. A few days later, Swen and Eric drive by Amy and Cream and they inform them of their recent marriage along with Eric's desire to get a motorcycle license. Amy wonders what the two see in each other although Cream says the important thing is that they're happy together. Vanilla comes back from 2 weeks visiting Butter, only to find Espio's scale peelings all over the house.

Eric has now gained some level of literacy at the age of 43. Swen and Eric are married as of this episode. It's revealed that Ms. Penny teaches adult literacy classes after hours at the school.
