Episode 406 - Long Way to the Top Just to Fall Down

Plot:
Chaotix rehearses one last time before their concert begins with Eric having to wear a smoke-releasing backpack due to him quitting smoking. Cream cleans off Eric's guitar, which he complains won't sound right anymore due to not having his stank on it. As the group plays their first song, Eric's smoke pack malfunctions and sends him flying across the stage into a Pepsi sign. Eric is rushed to the hospital where his injuries are diagnosed as too severe for him to play in the concert the following day. Chaotix considers a replacement and Espio brings up Sonic since he and Eric both play the guitar. They drive over to Sonic's house where Sonic shows them a demo of him strumming along to "Up to My Neck in You". During the song, Charmy cuts the stereo and the gang is amazed at how much Sonic has improved since they last heard him play. They stick around to hear him play a few more songs before deeming him ready to perform. However, Sonic doesn't know any of Chaotix's material so Espio volunteers to cram the program with him before the concert. They finish an hour before the concert begins with Espio providing him with a cheat sheet just in case. Chaotix then goes over Eric's repertoire for each song during the show as he performs. However, technical support says Sonic has to tone down some of Eric's antics due to faulty wiring and pipes. The band circumvents this by having Sonic spray smoke out of a hose attached to his guitar. After the concert, Chaotix, Amy, and Cream congratulate Sonic on the impressive job he did filling in for Eric and for providing his own twists to Eric's usual performance. Swen wheels in Eric who is recuperating from his injuries but will be back to normal in six weeks. Eric suggests that Sonic start playing full-time and Cream even suggests getting Sonic Underground together again. Sonic declines, saying he needs to get Sonia and Manic to play their instruments for real with Amy reminding him that they already could. Eric tells Sonic he can keep the wireless transmitter and strap he used with his guitar during the show as souvenirs and as a way to practice moving around while playing. As the crowd funnels out of the venue, Charmy pulls the rest of Chaotix aside and tells them they owe Sonic a huge favor for saving them. They treat Sonic and Amy to an expensive bed and breakfast out in the country. Amy then gets a text from Cream with a video of Chaotix covering "Up to My Neck in You" as a tribute to Sonic.

This episode was done almost exactly 1 year after Episode 356 "I Play Today" in which Sonic began his guitar lessons. (9/20/15)
