Episode 404 - Give My Love to Rose
Taped: 9/4/16
Plot:
Amy and Cream are on their way to Elaine's with a passed-out Jenny in the back seat. Amy thanks Cream for coming along to help with clearing out Elaine's attic. Jenny wakes up shortly before they arrive and Amy fills her in on the plan. They arrive bickering like they were children once again with Cream baffled by their choice of words for each other as Elaine welcomes them with open arms. They take to the attic where, in the first box Amy opens, she finds the doll her father, Whitey Rose, bought her shortly before his death that she named Cindy and chose not to play with but instead keep it in nice condition in memory of him. She then finds a tattered Raggedy-Ann doll with bite marks on its face. Jenny explains that it used to say evil things to her at night so she bit it in an attempt to kill it. This initially alarms Cream until Amy clarifies that this event happened just 4 years ago when Jenny was extremely drunk while they were moving Elaine into her current residence within the retirement village. Amy then explains to Cream that Elaine sold their childhood home and moved to the retirement village at that time to lessen the constant reminder of her long-passed husband. Despite this, she's held on to the numerous mementos acquired over the years but has now decided to divide them between Amy and Jenny and donate any leftovers. Jenny then stumbles across an original Macintosh computer and recalls how Whitey purchased it when Elaine was pregnant with Amy so he could do his office work for his job at the boat dock from home and used it for different things until his passing in 1989. Curious as to whether or not it still works, Jenny plugs it in and turns it out. Amazingly, it still works like new and Jenny notices a document dated June 1989, just weeks before her father's death. Surprisingly, it's a letter to Jenny and Amy laying out his dying wish. The letter is a confession of his emphysema to his daughters and of the tree house he'd secretly built with the help of his good friend Locke just for them. His last wish is for them to seek Locke and finish decorating it to their hearts' content. It ends with a declaration of love to his "angels" which brings everyone to tears. Amy and Jenny question Elaine as to whether she was aware of any of this to which she explains that she knew full well but never said anything because the tree house was never finished until 17 years later, shortly before Amy's marriage to Sonic, due to Locke's tendency to leave projects go unfinished for long periods of time and decided to let the letter serve as a time capsule instead. They conclude they must seek Locke in the morning and ask to see what remains of it. The next day, the 4 women visit him at his trailer and he explains his side of the story. Due to his split with Lara-Le who, by the time of Whitey's death, was already married to Wyn thus leaving Locke to have partial custody of Knuckles, taking away from his time needed to finish construction. A few years later when Mace was born, Locke took care of Knuckles almost full-time and kept forgetting to get back to the project. By the time Knuckles was an adult, Locke learned of Amy being pregnant with Lightning and vowed to finish building so that her baby could enjoy it instead. Construction was completed, but by that point Amy's life got busy and it once again went forgotten. He escorts them to the tree house located at the edge of Angel Island in a V-shaped tree with limbs that formed a heart shape. Amy and Jenny climb the ladder to see the inside and find it full of leaves, sticks, and acorns. Amy steps out to the balcony facing the edge of the island and breaks down into tears upon discovering a sign above the door that reads "Jenny and Amy's Tree Cabin: A place for my angels to be closer to me in heaven." Jenny joins her to console her and they both realize Whitey knew his days were numbered long before he ever let on he wasn't well. Locke explains the sign was printed nearly a year before he passed and construction began shortly after. Amy and Jenny return a few days later and fulfill their father's wish and decorate the inside of the tree house to resemble their mother's kitchen just as they remembered it from 30 years ago complete with Whitey's favorite color of ocean blue. They sit on the balcony and see Tails flying by in the Tornado with Sam and Miles as they wave to each other. Amy thanks her father for the tree house and promises to bring her children and any of her friend's children to enjoy it during the summer for many years to come.
