Episode 401 - Child's Play
Taped: 8/14/16
Plot:
Amy and Cream are getting the cake ready for Sonic Jr.'s 3rd birthday as they wonder what's taking Sonic so long to get home from picking up Elaine. While they wait, Amy decides to check on Tails as he repairs the pump for the swimming pool. Just as he finishes up and Amy throws the power switch, it explodes. Tails and Amy set off for Home Depot to buy a new one while Cream keeps an eye on Sam, Miles, and Amber, unaware that Sonic Jr. is riding his big-wheel in the front yard. Before Amy leaves, she informs Cream that a representative from Sega will be arriving soon to collect Sonic's proposal for a new game to be released in 2017. As Tails and Amy drive off, an intern from Sega pulls in and immediately spots Jr. presuming him to be his father due to being blue and named "Sonic." The intern begins asking Jr. for his ideas for the new game as the young hedgehog spouts off a list of things desirable to a 3 year old such as chocolate, dragons, and a castle made of candy of which he is the king. He finishes off the list insisting the game have Pikachu in it. The intern writes down everything in his notes and finds it all to be brilliant as he races back to Sega headquarters. No sooner does he leave do Amy and Tails return with a new pool pump, blissfully unaware of what had just taken place. Back at Sega, the intern pitches Sonic Jr.'s ideas to the head executive who finds it to be the best thing he's ever heard and immediately calls for his crew to begin production. Back at the Hedgehog homestead, Amy and Cream marvel over the cake shaped like Sonic that Cream has made when Amy gets a Twitter notification announcing a new Sonic game called "Sonic and the Sugar Dragon" complete with absurd cover art of Sonic slaying a lollipop dragon over a chocolate moat in front of a castle made of Skittles with Pikachu by his side. Initially Amy writes it off as a prank but as Cream begins to notice the childlike qualities of it, she ponders whether the Sega representative came while they weren't looking and mistook Jr. for his father. Amy has her doubts but decides to have Cream question Jr. rather than herself so he doesn't think he's in any kind of trouble. Cream does her best to probe for an explanation but all Jr. can think about is candy, dragons, and more candy and goes back to riding his big-wheel after blabbing about trying some of his mother's "special white candy" that she hides from him. She returns to Amy having made no headway but informs her of Jr.'s confession leading to her own about taking Xanax to cope with the frustration she experiences living with Sonic. Amy then explains, after finally getting through to him on the phone, that Sonic's been delayed by tractor trailer overturning and spilling ping-pong balls all over the freeway. Back at Sega, a demo of the game has already been produced and it sends the executive into an orgasmic state. Moments later another Twitter post pops up with video footage of the demo that immediately perplexes Amy and Cream. Amy then explains further that Sonic's been delayed yet again after realizing they forgot Elaine's gift and had to turn around. They also decided to take a longer route back to avoid the ping-pong ball cleanup. Now realizing the Sonic candy game is real, they decide to take a more direct approach with Jr. and find out what he really knows so Amy asks him who all he's talked to today. He mentions a "Mr. Tiny Man" who wanted to make a game about him. This confirms what they suspected all along and, after some deliberation, they conclude the best thing to do is nothing until the game comes out then call Sega out on their blunder. However, Amy decides to mock the premise of the game not realizing Jr. can hear everything she's saying which immediately upsets him, prompting him to get out of the pool and ride away on his big-wheel. Cream notices and chastises Amy for her misdeed. Amy realizes her mistake and stops Jr. to apologize and takes him over to the picnic table for cake. Back at Sega HQ, the executive has discovered the intern's mistake and scolds him for it. Having already spent millions of dollars on the project, they decide to not let it go to waste and release it as a mobile game for Android and iOS instead. After hours of waiting, Elaine is finally with her family but Sonic has had to take to the road again as he forgot to pick up Jr.'s gift at Kmart. Amy gets yet another notification that the game has been released and decides to download it and try it for herself. Surprisingly, it's actually good and she passes her phone to Cream to try and she too is impressed. Lightning takes a go at it and is immediately hooked. While watching Jr. enjoy the pogostick his grandmother got him, Amy, Elaine, and Cream decide to enjoy their adult drinks while they wait for Sonic to return.
