Episode 387 - Presidential Wrenches
Taped: 5/1/16
Plot:
Knuckles and Mace are making their way to Locke's place to help clean up the massive amount of junk he's accumulated over the years. Knuckles notices a familiar foot poking out from under a pile of car parts and pulls Sonic out of the debris. Turns out Sonic agreed to help with the cleanup but got stuck under the pile. The three arrive just as Locke emerges from his trailer and he immediately challenges Sonic to a strength test by tossing him an engine block. Of course Sonic is unable to hold the weight himself and collapses under it. Knuckles frees his friend from his oil-covered prison and they follow Locke to his shed which is filled to the brim with junk. Just then, Rouge and Cream arrive with food and drinks for the crew and the ladies decide to stay and help. Knuckles goes in first and pulls out a large tool chest which reminds Locke of his days helping his father do construction. Rouge then discovers a dusty box of wrenches with Locke explaining that they're his "presidential wrenches" as they're long and black and were purchased shortly after President Obama took office. Knuckles then pulls out a tubular frame which Locke reveals to be the beginnings of a go-kart he once intended to build for a young Knuckles but was never able to finish for lack of an engine. Rouge gets the idea to fix it up for Roger and Wynona when they're older and Locke is more than happy to oblige provided they find an engine for it. Cream then spots something covered in a plastic tarp. Knuckles removes the cover to reveal an old pinball machine that Locke saved from a bar he used to frequent that closed down 25 years ago. Mace then emerges from the clutter with a mysterious object. Locke examines it and remembers that it's the centrifugal clutch to the unfinished go-kart. Hours later and the shed is finally organized with homes for the tool chest and pinball machine with a mountain of stuff to be thrown away piled outside. They then move on to another spot on Locke's property where it's discovered he has a collection of old lawnmowers. Locke tells them of how he used to tinker with them and sell them for some extra money and stumbles across his old favorite, a small riding mower with a modest 8 horsepower engine and 36 inch deck that he claims would mow even the highest of grass. He goes on with a story of how he got it in exchange for helping a local farmer redo the plumbing in his farmhouse. He then recalls how, during one summer, he used it to mow the elderly farmer's grass with ease despite how high it was at the time. Excited to see his favorite old machine, he has Sonic retrieve a gas can and jumper pack from the shed. Locke fills it with gas and has Sonic turn the key. After a lot of sputtering and smoke it's running just how he remembers. He hops on and takes it for a ride through the overgrowth leaving a perfect swath of cut grass behind him much to his delight. He returns covered in clippings and decides to keep it and scrap the rest of his collection. The crew then moves on to the old cars sitting at the edge of his property where Mace discovers a 1986 Buick Skylark he immediately falls in love with despite the tree growing from the passenger seat. He asks Locke if it still runs so they decide to try it and find out. After adding a quart of oil, some gas, and some help from Locke's jumper pack, the car starts with a loud screech and some rattling much to Mace's excitement. Mace asks if he can have the car and Locke happily agrees provided Wyn is okay with it. As everyone else cleans up all the car parts and puts all their findings into a large pile, Mace triumphantly declares that his father has allowed him to keep his prized Buick. Knuckles agrees to help him fix it up over his summer break when Locke jokingly states that Marine might give Mace some action in the backseat. The next day, the scrap man hauls away all of Locke's leftover junk leaving him a nice stack of money in return. Locke initially decides to spend the money on an engine for the go-kart they found since they never found one. As they watch Mace caressing his "new" car, Locke suddenly remembers something and checks in the trunk. Sure enough, there sits a go-kart engine he'd long forgotten he put in there for safe keeping. He attaches it to the frame making it complete and promises to get it running in his spare time. He thanks everyone for their help then retreats to his trailer for his lunch consisting of Jack Daniels and porn. As Cream returns home, Knuckles challenges Sonic to some pinball in Locke's shed while Rouge sits back to watch.
