Episode 335 - Clear the Air
Taped 4/26/15
Plot:
Sonic tries to start his old lawn mower but it finally dies on him even after he gives it a kick. Amy ropes him into coming to Mobi-Mart so they can look for a new one, preferably electric since it's good for the environment. However, they arrive at Mobi-Mart to discover all the electric mowers have been sold out. They look outside to see the entire city covered with smog. Sonic and Amy go out to investigate while Cream watches over the kids. They see the smog is horrendous despite everybody driving Smart Cars and riding bicycles along with the mayor declaring gas-powered cars illegal. Sonic and Amy rush over to Eggman's base where Eggman forces Bokkun to bring more wire for his solar panels. When they discover Sonic and Amy breaking in, Eggman has Bokkun look around the lair which results in Sonic and Amy bumping into Bokkun. Bokkun tries to outsmart the hedgehogs by making them chase him to Eggman which they do. When they find Eggman, he points out that he now has solar panels and that he can't be behind Station Square's smog. Sonic and Amy relent, choosing to look up Chaotix instead. They're also having trouble finding the source of the smog. When Sonic and Amy arrive, they do a little research based on their findings at Mobi-Mart. It turns out the parent company of Mobi-Mart, Mobian Mechanical Engineering, is responsible for electric mowers, Smart Cars and bicycles and that they've just opened a new factory in Station Square. Chaotix looks up the address to the factory and when Sonic and Amy track it down, they discover the plant is drastically polluting the air with its chimneys. They realize their reckless pollution is the reason everybody's buying their Smart Cars and storm inside to demand an explanation. The president explains that their business is actually struggling despite record sales. Since they keep prices so low, they only have enough to pay their employees and they can't afford robots to speed up production. He also mentions they couldn't afford cleaner equipment which explains the smog. When Sonic tells him about possible emissions laws, he suggests talking to the mayor since he's the one who approved the factory. Sonic and Amy visit the mayor who approved the plant as a way of getting the people to circumvent paying taxes. Amy gives up hope, saying that MME and the mayor have their reasons for doing the things they do even though the people themselves want to make a difference. However, Amy then comes up with an idea that will improve the plant. She has Eggman bring over his robots to the plant so it can operate more efficiently without pollution. Sonic tells Amy to pinch him before it turns out Sonic was just dreaming. They're still at home and never went to Mobi-Mart which means the smog never existed. Sonic, in his last ditch effort to not buy an electric mower, tells Amy about his vision. When Sonic checks the lawn mower again, it turns out it actually ran out of gas. With the lawn mower working again, Sonic proclaims it good as new before they put it away...just as the wheels fall off. Sonic says it might not be a bad idea to shop around and when they do, they buy an electric one which Sonic absolutely adores. Amy proves that she was right yet again as the episode ends.
