Episode 321 - Johnny Debit at Prison Island
Taped: 1/18/15
Plot:
Shadow is browsing fan sites of Johnny Debit wishing he could recall the whole experience. After Chaos Controlling to Sonic's bathroom, he tells Sonic that he must relive that personality because he wants to be as happy as he appears in all the publicity photos. He leaves Sonic to think it over before discussing it with Cream and Tails who are also at the house. While Sonic continues his bout with constipation, Amy suggests he pay Manic and Sonia a visit so he can have back-up musicians. Manic and Sonia are more than happy to reprise their drumming and keyboards for Shadow's revival and seem to think Sonic can play lead guitar despite rumors that he fakes it on Sonic Underground. When they go back to Sonic's house, he confirms that he indeed cannot play guitar. With Chaotix performing a concert that day, they go to the zoo to find Hudson who used to play guitar for Johnny before being captured and placed there. When Hudson mentions Johnny's attire, Shadow runs away and grabs the clothes he used to wear as Johnny, jogging Hudson's memory. After Shadow busts Hudson out of his cage with a Chaos Control, they go to find a new guitar for him because his old one is ruined. They sample some guitars at a music store until they find an old beat up 1963 Esquire. Shadow comes by to tell the gang that Johnny Debit's first gig will be at Prison Island. This does not sit well with the rest of the group but Shadow convinces them they can fight back against any prisoners who jump them. Unfortunately, their first song results in the prisoners throwing things at them because Shadow's voice isn't Johnny Debit's of the past and the song he wrote wasn't up to par. Shadow walks off the stage in disgrace, prompting Hudson to call Sonic over to the stage. After the gang gives Sonic a pep talk on how to fake a drum sound with the guitar, the show resumes with Sonic replacing Shadow and Hudson singing. After the show, Shadow realizes that he couldn't be Johnny Debit because he sang and wrote good song lyrics. The rest of the group comforts him since he was able to do what he loved once more and he wrote a song about Maria. However, when the gang tells him about Johnny Cash, Shadow realizes Johnny Debit was only popular because he was a ripoff. Hudson leaves the group, saying that now that he's free from the zoo, he's going back to the bayou in search of his wife and son. Later at Sonic's house, he and Amy conclude that Shadow really was just Shadow and that he didn't need to have sense knocked into him that he wasn't Johnny Debit. At ARK, Shadow decides to write songs for himself after seeing Johnny Cash's Wikipedia page. In the bayou, Hudson arrives back at his house only to find a note from his wife saying that she moved out. Because she took Johnny Debit out of context, she is divorcing him and taking custody of their son. He gives up all hope and says he should have stayed in the zoo.

Lyrics to Shadow's song:
Maria.. oh Maria...
Maria all my life
If GUN hadn't have shot Maria
I'd have had her for my wife
Maria's gone, one more round Maria's gone
I went to her sector
And I saw Maria there
Found her in the corner
Trying to hide behind her chair
Maria's gone, one more round Maria's gone
She was scared stiff and shaking
And feeling cold and green
Staring down the barrel of a big black sub machine
Maria's gone, one more round Maria's gone
First time they shot her
They shot her in the side
Hard to watch her suffer
But with the second shot she died
Maria's gone, one more round Maria's gone
But doctor, oh, doctor
Doctor,I can't sleep
'Cause all around my bedside
I hear the patter of Maria's feet
Maria's gone, one more round Maria's gone
That GUN soldier was devilish
But I let him run
I should have brought him down and
Did him like Maria got done
Maria's gone, one more round Maria's gone
