Episode 307 - Right Hand Man
Taped: 10/5/2014
Plot:
While Chaotix takes care of Eggman, Espio breaks his hand punching one of his machines two days before a concert date. The next day after his hand is bandaged up, the gang contemplates what to do. They can't cancel since their show is sold out but Eric suggests looking around town for a quickie replacement. He goes to Sonic's house where Amy suggests he look up Shadow under his former country alias, Johnny Debit. Eric and Sonic go to ARK where Shadow tells them he has no memory of ever performing as Johnny Debit and recommends going to someone else for help. Eric and Sonic then go to the zoo where they find Hudson Crocodile whom Charisma said knows how to play guitar. After playing a sample, Sonic and Eric ask him to perform but can't because he isn't allowed to leave the zoo. Eric then suggests visiting Cream since she's online a lot and is able to research upcoming talent. The three search on Craigslist where the best result after Espio and Eric is, surprisingly, Sebastian Greyfox. They find Sebastian at his house where he starts making a move on Sonic, despite Eric and Cream also being present. Sebastian admits that he can play and even shows them around a room stocked with all kinds of various guitars. He plugs in a guitar exactly like the one used by Malcolm Young before he retired from AC/DC and busts a few notes, impressing the gang until it turns out he's actually miming to music. When they arrive back, Charmy suggests contacting someone from Crush 40 but Sonic has to contact the Sega Head of Music since their departments don't normally associate with each other. Unfortunately, Jun Senoue and Johnny Gioeli are working independently on side projects. Just as everybody gathers in Chaotix Headquarters ready to cancel the show, Vanilla brings in her old Gibson L-5 guitar, explaining she grew up in the country and that Butter taught her how to play guitar and autoharp. After a brief demonstration, Espio hands her his own guitar for her to try out. After getting a feel for the instrument, Vanilla busts out the riffs to "Crazy Train". They immediately get her to perform and at the show, they perform a new song Vector wrote especially for Vanilla. During the song, Sonic, Amy and Cream all comment on how out of place Vanilla looks despite performing so well. For their last song, Vector and Vanilla play a country duet together with Vanilla's guitar and Eric playing a Telecaster. After the show, Vanilla tells the gang that she's available as a last minute replacement any time they need her and offers to make carrot pie for the band. Eric requests someone spoon-feed Espio his share and make his a la mode.
Fun Facts:
It's revealed that Sebastian Greyfox collects vintage guitars and that Vanilla can play guitar as well as her autoharp. Hudson Crocodile makes his second appearance.
