Episode 222 - Close Enough
Taped: 2/3/2013
Plot:
Knuckles is ready to take Mace and Marine to see Station Square Sam for Groundhog Day. Mace insists that they don't need a chaperone but Knuckles explains that Lara-Le doesn't want them to be alone since Mace is still under-aged. Rouge soon arrives after meeting with a building contractor to discuss plans for the new house. The four then set off for Station Square. Meanwhile, the mayor and his assistant are desperately searching for a solution to their last minute predicament. Station Square Sam has died of a heart attack! The mayor concludes that all they need is something close enough to a groundhog that has a shadow. Kiki, his ditzy assistant who is a former Hooters girl, Carnegie Mellon graduate, and moonlights as a dancer, interprets this to mean someone named "Shadow" and calls none other than Shadow. Shadow, after being bitterly disgusted by Kiki's annoying self hyping and condescending remarks, agrees to be the substitute for a sum of $60,000 and instantly arrives. Much to his chagrin, he's forced to wear a groundhog costume and pose as the real Sam. As he makes his way outside to the stage to make his prediction, he's overwhelmed by the amount of noise and camera flashes and goes into destruction mode. He Chaos Blasts the crowd and storms off swearing certain doom. Knuckles and company witness the event and immediately realize that Shadow has taken Sam's place. They question the mayor's assistant but are extremely dissatisfied with her explanation and, upon recognizing her, immediately decide to give her a beat down. The mayor then steps in and explains that it was actually his vague instructions that caused the confusion. As if on cue, Shadow returns with Black Doom's army ready to destroy Station Square. Knuckles formulates a plan to stop Shadow with a distraction. They disguise Mace as a Shadow imposter and Rouge coaches him to act like Shadow. While the real Shadow is sidetracked, Knuckles and Marine ward off the Black Arms soldiers one by one. Shadow immediately takes notice to Mace and challenges him to an ultimate showdown which quickly devolves into nothing more than Mace getting brutally beaten while the Black Arms are taken down by Knuckles performing a series of fire dunks using Marine as a projectile. Shadow celebrates his victory against Mace when Knuckles and Marine step in to reveal they've taken down the Black Army causing Black Doom to retreat. Rouge then reveals to Shadow that his imposter was none other than Mace which immediately causes Shadow to realize the error of his ways and decides to finish the ceremony. He reveals to the crowd that he has seen a "Shadow" and therefore another 6 weeks of winter is upon them. He then retreats to inside the mayor's office, removes his costume, collects his money, and leaves for the ARK. Knuckles and company return to Angel Island to treat Mace's injuries. Rouge then informs Knuckles that the discussions with the contractors went well and that construction will begin in a week. The house is expected to be complete by August which delights Knuckles who explains that they'll just have to continue to make do with separate living arrangements in the meantime and promises to spend as much time together with his new bride as possible. Meanwhile, Shadow has already spent his $60,000. As it turns out, he needed the money to cover DirecTV's cost to install a dish on the ARK so that Shadow can finally have TV service in space.
