Episode 210 - Dear Mother
Taped: 11/11/2012
Sonic and Amy dress up their kids and themselves in preparation of an incoming visitor, Amy's mother, Elaine. As her car pulls in, the family gets ready to greet her. She greets the entire family with much hugs and kisses and they sit down together to catch up. Elaine tells a story of how Jenny at age eight cut her head on the family's coffee table. After Sonic grabs a glass of water for Elaine, Jenny barges in, clearly having had her share of booze. Elaine asks Sonic to hide the kids, thinking things might get ugly. It clearly does as Elaine questions Jenny's drinking habits, causing Jenny to become defensive about her behavior. When Amy mentions Jenny's problem is similar to her father's, who succumbed to cigarette smoking, she opens up to why she began drinking. After her father, Whitey, died and she never found a boyfriend in school, she turned to the bottle, beginning her addiction. Sonic and Amy take her out of the house and have Elaine watch the kids. They realize Rouge might be able to help her because her mother suffered from alcoholism. They bring her over to her house where Rouge agrees to help her overcome her addiction. Back at home, Elaine sits the kids down and explains to the kids why Jenny chooses to live her life the way she does and why their grandfather died. She immediately rectifies everything with her homemade fresh baked cookies. Jenny begins her therapy at Rouge's house which involves placing her on a couch and slapping her whenever she thinks of alcohol. Jenny is given a cocktail...which is Sunny D laced with Dr Pepper. Since Jenny is still thinking about booze, Rouge suggests attacking her other addiction, sex. Sonic immediately objects but Jenny explains she's into wilder men. Jenny demands Rouge to tell her about Shadow's sex drive but she refuses, saying it's private matter. While Elaine and the kids are eating cookies, she tells them about Whitey and how much Lightning reminds her of him. Jenny's next step is shock therapy which Sonic greatly enjoys. Amy, however, draws the line there and they agree to end Jenny's path to recovery. She also discovers the electric device is actually a sex toy which embarrasses Rouge. Amy takes Sonic and Jenny back to their house so she can have Elaine explain to the family why they never tried rehabbing Jenny sooner. Elaine tells them she and Whitey were both once wild party animals it was through alcohol that they conceived Jenny. She was able to clean up her act quickly because she was pregnant and wrongly thought Jenny would do the same. Amy reminds them that they still haven't talked anything good about the past, which she does. With that, Jenny promises not to drink in front of the kids. She also tells them Rouge's shock therapy made her reconsider her lifestyle. Jenny apologizes to everyone and hugs them before leaving to try to find Shadow in space. Amy also thanks Elaine for stopping by to visit and reasons that while they can't completely change Jenny, she's still family and they should be there for her. Elaine also compliments on how well-behaved the children are and Amy suggests she come back next week for Lightning's birthday. After she leaves, the family bakes more cookies together.
