Episode 126 - Mobian Bandstand
Taped: 10/22/10
PLOT:
Charmy, sitting at a drum set, hands Espio a guitar case proclaiming that, after 10 years, it's time to bring their old music band back. Espio is reluctant a first since he hasn't touched a guitar in years, but after looking at the guitar inside, quickly changes his mind. Mighty can bring back his bass guitar and they know Vector will want to sing again. However there's just one problem. Their lead guitarist isn't around anymore due to being dead: Ray the Flying Squirrel. When Ray died they continued their band for a few years. However they were not the same and simply sucked. They decide they must hold auditions to find his replacement. While they put up fliers to gain attention, Espio will also get Vector to join in and Vanilla to cook them something. They realize they must find someone who has skills as good as Ray's and they'll honor Ray in the band's first gig. Their main hope is to raise money to cure AIDS since that is what he died from... along with hitting his head from falling from a ladder. Soon Espio arrives at Vector and Vanilla's house and before long, Vector finds out that the main reason why Vanilla's always been attracted to Vector is that she was a huge fan of their band long ago. It turns out Vanilla even has their old album, Chaotix Countdown, on cassette. However it looks as if all of their songs were covers from other bands. Their unoriginality is likely why their songs never charted. Vanilla thinks she can try out and meanwhile, Charmy gets Sonic involved with auditioning too. Charmy then looks for Stormy and Junkaholic. While Stormy isn't sure, Junkaholic readily wants to audition to show his talent and convinces Stormy to go along with the audition. However, Junkaholic is quickly getting a huge ego over it all, which isn't sitting too well with Stormy. Back to Espio, he has given Knuckles a flier who just crumples it up and says he'll basically audition later. The Chao also wants in too. As for Vector, he manages to get Lightning to audition despite his young age. Charmy, meanwhile, gets Swen involved with auditions too. Believing they have enough contenders now, Charmy decides to head back to the office. Later that day, the auditions begin. Junkaholic is first up. He sings a song he wrote but does horribly and sings so high pitched that he breaks glass. The Chaotix members are baffled at it and only say they'll let him know if he gets accepted, even though Junkaholic thinks he did a fantastic job. Even Stormy could only facepalm at how he did. Next up is Vanilla and she plays "The Morning After" on an autoharp. However she can't remember all of the lyrics. Lightning's turn comes up. Playing... or rather banging the tambourine, he sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Amber and Flash are up next, much to Charmy's disgust. All they can do is use a Mattel See and Say. Vector bangs his head on his desk but Charmy actually declares it the best he's heard so far. However more is to come, as Knuckles' turn arrives. He comes in acting rather....odd and does a beatboxing solo into the microphone. Charmy can only wonder what that was all about as Sonic, Manic, and Sonia begin their turn. They do great but no one plays a guitar, and thus isn't what Chaotix is looking for. Only one audition remains: Swen. He has two bits, the first being a polka tune with an accordion. However this turned out to be just a fake audition to make everyone freak out. His real audition involves playing "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis on the piano. Everyone's loving it but as soon as Swen's audition goes well, he runs out of energy and passes out. Charmy is disgusted at how there isn't one good player despite all the auditions. Eric then shows up, wanting to audition. No one ever asked due to thinking he had no talent, but he's allowed to audition. As it turns out, despite being in a schoolboy outfit that nobody gets the reference of, he gets the Chaotix members involved in an unbelievable rendition of the song "Let There Be Rock." Everyone loves what they see, except Sonic who just can't understand what he saw. Charmy admits that it was even better than Ray's guitar playing. All of Chaotix decide he's their man and Eric Prower becomes the new band member. Eric says there's only one thing left and it's a playing of "Open Your Heart" by Crush 40 as the credits roll. As they do so, Sonic really hopes the song doesn't get ruined and as he does so, he falls off the ladder he was on similarly to what Ray had done upon his death, and gets steaming in anger saying "damn it all!" as the song continues to play and the credits continue to roll. The episode then ends.
