Episode 545 - Tell Tchaikovsky the News
Taped: 12/13/19
Plot:
Sonic Jr. watches Sonic using his new snowblower for the first time. Unfortunately, his aim's a little off since he covers Lightning in snow from the driveway. After clearing a spot, Amy drives in having picked up Amber from dance class. Amy tells Sonic that she's been practicing hard for a recital that's due to take place in a few days. They're doing a winter-themed concert and her part has her dressed as a snowflake. Lightning mistakes the concert for a political statement before Sonic reminds him she's actually relating to the weather-related term. Amy also announces that Flash is providing musical accompaniment on his violin with the orchestra, so she goes inside to check on him. Flash plays through his part with the background music on his phone at the suggestion of Swen and Eric. He is nervous about playing in his first recital, especially since Amber will be dancing on stage while he's in the pit. Amy assures him that everything will be fine and that his family will be there for him. They then go downstairs to see Amber in her snowflake outfit. A few days later, Flash and Amber go to the dress rehearsal with Mrs. Hammers in charge. A kid on viola next to Flash sneezes, and Mrs. Hammers screams at him to be quiet after Flash says, "Bless you." Thane has been playing wrong notes so Mrs. Hammers tunes his cello while yelling at him not to play wrong notes. During another rehearsal, a girl next to Amber falls down. Mrs. Hammers shows no concern that she might be injured, shouting that it better not happen again. Hours pass, and the rehearsal is finally to Mrs. Hammers' liking. Flash is so tired that he falls asleep after playing the last note, to which Mrs. Hammers yells at him to wake up. Amber and Flash tell Amy that it's Mrs. Hammers' fault that they're so late from school. Amy sides with them, explaining that she was there when she was going to school and that she hasn't changed at all. Flash has a nightmare that Mrs. Hammers is his dictator, demanding that he play better in a weakened state. When Mrs. Hammers has had enough, she drops Flash in a crocodile pit. Meanwhile, Amber dreams that she's naked on stage and the audience, including Sonic and Amy, point and laugh at her. After they wake up from their nightmares, Amy convinces them not to worry about Mrs. Hammers and to just be themselves in the recital. Later that day, all the kids' parents are packed in the auditorium, waiting for the show to begin. Before the curtain raises, Flash and Amber wink at each other from their positions. Near the end of the performance, Amber pulls off a perfect triple pirouette and Flash sustains a vibrato on his violin. The crowd cheers, and all the performers take their bows. During the party, Flash and Amber are congratulated by their parents, Cream, and Tails. Platinum even stops by to thank them for putting on a good show. Mrs. Hammers walks over, seeing the kids enjoying their cookies. She surprises them when she reveals that she made them and announces that she will be retiring at the end of the year. She even remembers Amy who was one of her first students. Amy and Sonic watch the snow falling outside to close the episode.
